Open Letter to New Students

Hello!

I hope this letter finds you eager & open-minded, whether you're completely new to yoga or just new with me! I'm grateful to have you here & inspired to get to know you!

Just a few things to cover, particularly about our yoga relationship:

What role do I play in your Yoga Journey?

I will utilize my certified training to explain the different schools of yoga and work with you to determine how you'd like to practice in a way that will be beneficial and sustainable in your lifestyle. That second part is important because when your yoga practice can be seamlessly incorporated into your every day life, you will consistently experience your desired gains to properly manage your mental stress, physical symptoms, or spiritual needs.

I'll be there to answer your questions, assist you with getting into and out of postures, and bring motivation & ease to your practice.

Since every person is different in their mental, physical, and spiritual capacities, experimenting and developing an individual practice will help you to feel your personal best -- and we'll work on that together!

What can you expect from a class with me?

In a 1-on-1 class, we will discuss your desired results and experiment with what kind of practice is right for you at this chapter in your life. I will guide you through the practice and offer both verbal and physical cues/adjustments to ensure proper alignment, breathing patterns, and mindset.

In a group setting, I will prepare a theme for the class that will set the tone for the practice. Some thematic examples are: stress-reduction, grounding, stillness, energy flow, strengthening, and more. Feel free to contact me for information on where I will be teaching at a convenient location for you to attend!

What types of yoga do I specialize in?

I have practiced hatha and restorative yoga for nearly a decade. Since becoming a teacher, I've learned to teach various hatha practices (including Beginners, Easy, and Flow) as well as the restorative techniques of meditation, concentration, and Nidra. For further descriptions on some of these classes, check out the Yoga Page.

Additionally, I've previously trained as a contortionist at the Actors Gymnasium in Evanston, IL and can guide you in ways to gain flexibility and physical control.

In my experience teaching thus far, I've made it a personal standard to provide compassionate support to beginners, only pushing to a boundary that you've carefully decided for yourself.

What is my Matside Manner?

To me, it is most important that your yoga practice enhances your life rather than cause you any sort of stress or pain. Therefore, I've determined my core values to be compassion, authenticity and harmony. I try to find ways to utilize these traits daily and will continue to seek to embody them in our sessions together in whatever way I can.

In class, I will offer verbal cues and suggestions and will assist you physically if you prefer a more hands-on approach. I will always offer props (blankets, blocks, bolsters, etc...) to assist you in your practice and to keep you safe in more advanced poses. I strive to always be attentive and anticipating your needs in order to have an enjoyable, worthwhile time working together.

Feel free to send me a message with any questions, concerns, or inquiries! I look forward to our partnership in your Yoga Exploration!

Peace,

Sissy
